Intent

P.S.H.E. (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) education is a school subject through which we aim to help all our pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe, and prepared for life and work. At Rufford, we believe that it’s vital that PSHE has an impact on both academic and non-academic outcomes for pupils and we tailor our lessons accordingly.  We also recognise that happy, confident children find it easier to learn.

We use highly regarded schemes such as The Chirstopher Winter Project and SCARF as the basis for our lessons.  We supplement this with external providers such as The Corum Life Education Bus, The GREAT Project and DARE.  During PSHE and throughout the children’s time working with us, we aim to develop our Magnificent Seven values which encourage us all to be ambitious, caring, confident, curious, determined, honest and respectful.

At Rufford, all of our PSHE is taught within the context of three core themes: health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world (including economic wellbeing and aspects of careers education).

We strongly believe that PSHE is a subject which enables children to be safe, successful and happy at school and then go on to live safe, successful and happy lives as adults.
