Art and Design
Subject Leader - Miss Wheat
Children are taught art and design in line with the National Curriculum.
Intent
At Rufford Primary, we value Art and Design as an important part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. We aim to deliver an Art and Design curriculum that engages, inspires and challenges. Our Art and Design curriculum provides the children with the opportunities to develop and extend their skills alongside opportunities to express their individual interests, thoughts and ideas through a range of media.
Implementation
Art and Design at Rufford is taught as part of our Creative Curriculum. There is a clear progression that allows children to gradually build up their knowledge, understanding and skills from the Foundation stage through to the end of Key Stage Two. Children build on their skills from year to year and are encouraged to become independent thinkers and learners.
Children at Rufford are encouraged to use and apply the artistic knowledge and skills that they are taught within art lessons across the whole curriculum.
Through their work in Art and Design all pupils will be taught to use a variety of materials and processes in 2 and 3 dimensions, including drawing, painting, and other media. The 3 main starting points are first hand observations, experience and imagination.
All children will have an opportunity to look at the work of artists, craftspeople and designers and to use their work as a stimulus for their own artwork.
